As a big Jack Daniels kinda girl, I was absolutely stoked to hear the news of Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey being launched in South Africa in the month of July 2012. Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey is currently the best-selling new spirit in the USA and was welcomed warm-heartedly by South Africans at the official launch last month.
As soon as I walked into the Harley Davidson Club on the corner of Canterbury and Constitution Street on the 26th of June, I knew I should have worn the studded jeans, biker boots and a faux leather jacket instead of the lace skirt and 3-inch stilettos I had on…Upon arrival of the launch event, Jack Daniel’s promotion girls provided us with an armband and a drinking voucher for five drinks – only five drinks as they promote responsible drinking. Only five! Immediately we started scheming.
After an hour of chitting and chatting and finishing two complimentary Jack and limes (YES!) the back garage door open with a big broooooom! A huge, black, Jack Daniels branded Bakkie was revealed with bee-keeper promo boys jumping off the back with bottles and bottles of the new product. I don’t know if I was more excited about the sexy honey walking towards me or the Tennessee Honey being put in front of me. A big CHEERS went down, following by a big gulp! An infusion of a proprietary honey and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey hit my palette. Warning: do not be fooled by its sweet smell of chestnut charm – it stings!
For you to believe that the rest of the night was a blast, not much convincing is needed. Big biker-boy burgers came around to seal the tummies and the promo-girls buzzed around us endlessly. The scheming I mentioned earlier came into effect and our table ended up with a full bottle of the good old Jack and mix. We also received a rad goodie bag on the way out – sadly with no sample included. Or maybe that’s a good thing ;-)
It’s been a while since the launch and I haven’t had any Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey again yet, but I’m very keen to get my hands on a bottle to sip on slowly. It is marvelous just on ice or with Soda Water or Ginger Ale for a refreshing summer drink. You can also have it as a pre-dinner aperitif, a shooter during a night out on the town or use it in a cocktail – try the Honey Punch recipe I drafted below.
Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey is perfectly balanced to meet the sweeter palate South Africans are favouring at the moment. Bottled at 35% ABV for ultimate smoothness, this versatile whiskey liqueur is available from July 2012 at leading liquor merchants from R190.
It’s still a whole lot of Jack, now with a little bit of honey.
